This innovative concept caught the attention of his engineer friend, Dr. Herbert Funck, and together they embarked on a journey to produce and distribute these unique shoes. Initially met with skepticism, the concept of an air-cushioned sole soon proved its worth.
In 1960, the first cherry red eight-eyelet work boot was introduced as the 1460, a name that would become synonymous with the brand. The range was branded AirWair, and from that point on, Dr. Martens became an iconic name in the footwear industry. The Dr.
