Rated: R Format: Blu-ray Drama Editorial Review
** Dream Lover** "Dream Lover" is a captivating psychological thriller from the 90s that has garnered a Considerable following since its release, particularly among fans of the genre and respected actors James Spader and Mädchen Amick. The film combines a simple yet engaging story with an undertone of mystery that keeps the viewer on their toes, making it ideal for repeated viewings. Many fans have praised the strong performances, particularly Spader's portrayal of a warm, vulnerable divorced man who finds himself entangled in a web of deceit spun by Amick's alluring character. The film's surreal dream sequences draw comparisons to the beloved "Twin Peaks," a touchstone for several reviewers who appreciate Amick's duality as both a nurturing character and a manipulative force. The film is lauded for its ability to escape the typical violent tropes of its time, opting instead for a more intricate psychological exploration. Critics have noted that the chemistry between Spader and Amick is palpable, elevating the film's tension through their interactions, both passionate and confrontational. However, the film did experience some criticism regarding edits in its home video release, suggesting that the absence of certain sensual scenes diminished its original impact. Nevertheless, fans affirm that the movie remains a notable entry in the erotic thriller genre, celebrated for its nuanced storytelling and the compelling performances of its leads. Overall, "Dream Lover" has emerged as a cult favorite among enthusiasts of 90s thrillers, celebrated for its engaging plot and the performance prowess of Spader and Amick. Many viewers regard it as a neglected gem that deserves more recognition, especially given the recent release of its Blu-ray edition, which has made it more accessible than ever. **
