Red Raven Board Games RRG00009 Editorial Review

Above and Below is a unique worker placement game that blends adventure and storytelling. Set in a charming fantasy world, the game has good art quality and heavy stock cardboard pieces that are of good quality too. The game is easy to learn and offers a lot of variety so you are not likely to repeat the same game twice. It offers a great entry point into more complex board games for casual players. However, the strategy isn't very deep and the encounters, while fun and novel, become predictable after a few plays. The game is not plot-based and requires players to focus on building and collecting resources, with the aim of achieving the most victory points. The stories that are told during gameplay are short and entertaining, but they do not drive the game. Above and Below is not a cooperative game and can be played by 2-4 players. While some players claim that it is a 4-player game, others contend that it can be played with two players and is equally enjoyable. The gameplay is comparable to Betrayal at House on Haunted Hill, but A&B is more suited for families or players who are not comfortable with morbid or satanic themes. Overall, although the game gets old and repetitive after a while, it is still a fun and enjoyable game that offers a unique blend of mechanics that work well together. With its short gameplay, strategy, and storytelling elements, Above and Below is a great addition to any board game collection.
